Before operating an electric scooter:
• familiarise yourself with the vehicle’s rental conditions and/or user manual;
• learn to operate the vehicle in an area without traffic;
• make sure that the electric scooter is in working condition:
o the bell works
o the brakes are functional
o there is a white reflector or light at the front, a red one at the back and a yellow, red or white one on the sides
o the battery is full
• make yourself visible:
o a white light must be at the front and a red one at the back when riding in the dark or with poor visibility
o use the lights during the daytime as well, wear bright clothes while riding and wear a reflector during dark hours
• plan your route and prefer streets with less traffic.
When riding an electric scooter:
• always be sober;
• ride alone;
• wear a helmet (helmets are compulsory for people under 16);
• use cycle and pedestrian tracks or pavements;
• choose a speed appropriate for the road and traffic conditions and do not go over 25 km/h;
• be ready for unexpected events and threats such as high curbs, potholes or slippery roads;
• always ride on the right side of the road and pass others from the left;
• slow down in the vicinity of pedestrians and pass them slowly at a distance;
• pay attention to others and keep in mind that they may act unexpectedly.
When approaching a crossing on an electric scooter:
• slow down, stop, look and make sure that no cars are approaching or that they have stopped;
• cross the road at the speed of a pedestrian;
• get off the scooter at railroad crossings and push the scooter by your side when crossing.
When ending a ride with an electric scooter:
• park the scooter so that it does not obstruct the road: when parking on a pavement, leave at least 1.5 metres of space for pedestrians.
